This listing is for randomly selected blue geode agate slices with quartz crystal geode centers. Each of these blue agate slabs has a natural geode opening. These are real agate geode slices, but like all blue agate of this color, they have been dyed. The size of these blue geode slices ranges from approximately 2.5-3.75 inches long. Round slices will be on the shorter end of that size range, and oblong slices will be on the longer end of the range.
You will receive a randomly selected piece, although I may be able to accommodate some requests. For example, if you have a preference such as round shape or dark blue color I will try fulfill your request.
Agate is a variety of silica also sometimes known as “banded chalcedony.” It is most often formed as nodules in volcanic rock. A vapor vesicle in the rock fills in over time with layers of chalcedony and crystalline quartz. When the cavity does not fill in completely there will be a geode center with the crystal points directed toward the interior of the specimen. The stone was named after the river Achates (now known as Dirillo and located in modern day Sicily) by the Greek naturalist Theophrastus. Agate has a long history of use for artistic and decorative purposes.
***You will not receive these exact agate slices pictured, but you will receive similar quality agate slices.
